DJ Tony Owens shows
Born in Willesden England and growing up in Kingston Jamaica, Tony Owens started out playing vinyl records in 1978 on the “CLOSE ENCOUNTER DISCO”. He also was a regular guest of RJR’s Holford Plummer Saturday night “Disco Mania” show on RJR Radio 2 (Now FAME FM) between 1982 – 1988. However it was July 1999 to September 2011 that marked the period when he captured the hearts of Jamaicans who listened to RJR (Radio Jamaica) on a Saturday morning (The Epiphany) 5 – 9 am, where he whipped up a storm of classic oldies of different genres.
He can take you back…..way back….to the times when music moved through your bones and stirred every fiber in your being….a time when going to a dance meant exactly that…you danced and danced until you had to wring the sweat from your shirt and air it out. What you hear is what you get….he sounds like a big warm musical teddy bear that is there to provide that uncanny comfort, and he is just that.
His soft spoken demeanor might lead you to think that he should be a telemarketer rather than a DJ, but once Tony Owens brushes off those “vinyls” and carries you through his oldies journey you become hooked and know at once that he was born to be around a console. Tony has that way of not saying much but letting his string of 60s, 70s & 80s hits of different genres speak volumes to your ears and heart. He has a long history of ‘popping off’ some big tunes, and has created a deep love affair with songs of the 60s, 70’s and 80’s. His mixing skills are evidenced by the way he fuses the songs, transcending the decades seamlessly.
He’s definitely the man with the musical plan.
DJ Tony Owens hosts the “Back In The Day” show every Saturday starting 9.00 AM to Noon EST.
