Lady Terra, the child of Jamaican and Trinidadian parents was born in Jamaica and migrated to Miami, FL, at 3 years old. Growing up in a Caribbean household, she was exposed to reggae, calypso, and soca, however, at 16 years old while on her annual summer trip to Jamaica, she fell in love with dancehall.

Sometime during her senior year at Howard University, where she studied music business, she realized that there were not any female disc jockeys and decided to learn. She asked a fellow student and friend, DJ GAF, to teach her. After graduating and returning home to Miami, Terra was introduced to Kool G who also gave her some pointers and introduced her to Mark “Daddy Saw” Harris and his business partner Budafuco. They gave her the opportunity to host her own Monday evening program which transitioned to a daily evening drive time show shortly thereafter. This marked the beginning of her career as Lady Terra!

Lady Terra came on the scene in the late 90’s lighting up the airwaves on Mixx 96. As one of the few female DJ’s in the business during this time, she was one of the house resident DJ’s alongside DJ Khaled, House Arrest, and Mr. Slater for Rockers Island on Miami Beach. Along with Giselle the Wassi One and the Mixx 96 crew, Lady Terra was also one of the resident DJ’s at Mad House on Key Biscayne. She has traveled across the Caribbean and US playing alongside some of the best sound systems and DJ’s in the industry like Stonelove, Renaissance Disco, King Addies, Bass Odessey, and Black Chiney to name a few!

In 2001 she became a mother and as her motherly instincts took hold, her focus was on raising her daughter. In 2010 she cohosted the Rockers Island radio program on 103.5 FM The Beat with Walshy Fire until the station went through programming changes.

Today she is a registered nurse and while saving lives and taking caring for the sick is one of her passions, her first love music has drawn her back to the turntables. When asked about the reason for her return, Lady Terra simply quoted Beres Hammond, “every time I think of saying goodbye, everything inside me says it’s a lie, I can’t let go!”

Be sure to tune in to her show Music TerraPy Sessions with Lady Terra on JusMuzic.com every 2nd and 4th Sunday.
